Following the Secretary of State's decision to proceed with High Speed 2, a number of community and planning forums have been set up by HS2 Ltd along the proposed route between London and Birmingham. As details of what is proposed are put forward it is essential that all the communities affected make their views known. A Summit was held in Aylesbury on 19 April. HS2 Scope and Methodology Report 

As part of its work on assessing and minimising the environmental impact of the new high speed rail line that will link London and the West Midlands, HS2 Ltd has now completed a consultation which sought expert technical views on the Scope and Methodology of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

The Scope and Methodology Report (SMR) has been published, and is a technical document that outlines the environmental topics which will be assessed as part of the EIA. It sets out the survey methods that are to be used, which geographical areas will be included and the period of time over which effects will be assessed.

Publication of the SMR follows an eight-week consultation on the draft Scope and Methodology Report which began on 4 April this year. HS2 Ltd invited organisations with relevant expertise such as local authorities, parish councils, statutory bodies and environmental groups to submit their views on the proposed approach. The draft SMR was also made available on HS2 Ltd’s website for input from any person or organisation with an interest.

A total of 166 detailed responses were received which then informed the revised SMR.  This will continue to be refined as and when new evidence is received.
